Priced Out
How UK house prices moved farther away from local wages.
In 1997 a home cost roughly 3.5 times local annual earnings. Today it
is closer to 8 times in many places, and well above that across London
and parts of the South West. A few towns outside London, such as South
Lakeland in Cumbria, now rank among the least affordable places in
England and Wales.
